Hello, Slasher Radio Friends!
We’ve all been very excited to see the growth of Slasher Radio over the past few months and we hope you have as well! If you’ve been following along since our launch in October 2017, you’ll realize the snowball effect that hard work has caused since our first episode. Starting off humble, Slasher Radio grew quickly with the help of all of you tuning in each week to hear our thoughts and opinions on all sorts of different horror films. I’m fairly new to the team, but I’m very grateful for Mikey Bonez taking me in and allowing me to become a part of this awesome outlet.
We’ve hit a few milestones lately and we were lucky enough to speak with the legendary voice actor John Kassir who served as The Crypt Keeper in TALES FROM THE CRYPT. Not only did he give The Crypt Keeper an incredibly unique personality, but he deserves an immense amount of credit for giving him one of the most memorable voices of all time. It was an absolute honor to sit down and learn from a man who has put a face to so many characters over the years.
Although meeting Kassir was one of our horror life goals, we weren’t ready to kick up our feet and relax just yet. Just weeks after meeting one horror legend, we scored an interview with yet another powerhouse and horror veteran, the Candyman, Tony Todd. The interview with Todd delivered more information than any of us had ever hoped for. It was such a pleasant surprise to hear about the humanitarian efforts and pet rescues that Tony has been involved with. He’s one that truly believes in treating people how you want to be treated and lives by those words. He has a pure soul and is a very admirable person. Of course, all of this is just a cherry on top of Todd’s extensive and successful career. During the interview, Todd mentions starting as and remaining a theater actor; however, that is only a sliver of his accomplishments over the years. I was fortunate to have been involved with Tony Todd’s work first hand at FANGORIA when we released the audio drama, DRACULA, in which he served as the bloodthirsty character. His voice and screen acting shows no signs of slowing down either. Todd already has several projects in development and he’s eager to continue doing the work he was born to do. When asked if the Candyman character has cemented itself in him after all of these years, his answer was absolutely priceless:
“I don’t walk around thinking I’m any of the characters that I’ve done. I walk around trying to imagine the great roles that I haven’t done yet.”
It goes without saying that no matter how dark his roles may be, Tony Todd is certainly a positive role model not only for fans of the horror genre but for entertainment fans in general. Be sure to listen to the full episode to hear a more in-depth discussion of his efforts and his plans for the future. One thing is for sure – nobody can keep him down. Tony Todd’s legacy will undoubtedly live on for eternity.
