October is finally here! That means, you can expect even more insanely good content here at Slasher Radio! Since our last update, we’ve covered “High Tension”, interviewed the creator of the Jason Voorhees statue in Arizona, celebrated our ONE YEAR anniversary with “Tales from the Crypt”, and spoke with James Jude Courtney who plays Michael Myers in the 2018 “Halloween” film. Needless to say, we’ve started this month off with a BANG!
Bonez and I were up to our usual shenanigans during the “High Tension” episode as we endlessly argued the credibility and brutality of the film. It’s easily one of my top 10 horror films and I’ve always had a lot of respect for the film’s creative approach. However, there are moviegoers out there (like Bonez) who feel that the story plot twist at the end ruins the entire movie.
You can hear us go back and forth on the pros and cons of “High Tension” in Episode 52 below:
We recently took a very public stance with a fellow horror fan in Arizona, Zachary Nagy, who constructed a Jason Voorhees statue from scratch and put it at the bottom of a Phoenix-area lake. Zach is a diving student and regularly visits Lake Pleasant with friends who are all part of the Arizona diving community. They all came together with the idea to build the Jason statue, complete with all environmentally-friendly materials so that the prop doesn’t affect the water or the animals that live in it. The Jason statue had become a hit via Reddit and word spread about the creepy creation which gained the attention of the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation officials. Although divers and lake visitors found the statue intriguing and exciting, the park officials did not share the same sentiment. Maricopa county park officials immediately set forth plans to locate and dispose of Jason as they declared that the statue was against park regulations. The guidelines that the Jason statue supposedly violates leads to the creation being deemed ‘trash’ and/or ‘obnoxious materials’.
We dug into the details and got to the bottom of the issue with the Jason Voorhees statue creator, Zachary Nagy. You can hear the full story told by Zach himself in Episode 53 below:
After the episode aired, we started a petition to help keep Jason submerged as it does not give any cause for concern for the water, animals, or lake visitors. It’s simply a harmless piece of horror art. Nearly two thousand people have already signed and there’s still time for YOU to help #SAVEJASON via Change.org by CLICKING HERE! Sign the petition and stand with us as we help Zach preserve this impressive horror statue.
On October 1st, we celebrated ONE FULL YEAR of Slasher Radio and spent our Anniversary episode discussing “Tales from the Crypt”! (Note: Our one year anniversary day is shared with the release date of the original “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” film!) We had several voice messages left by listeners calling in to congratulate us and even received a personal message from John Kassir, the Crypt Keeper himself! We’re beyond thankful for all of the support we’ve had from all of you and you’re what keeps us going every week.
Tune in and reminisce with us as we take a trip back through our past 12 months and chat it up about the iconic “Tales from the Crypt” series in Episode 54 below:
